ARARAT SAHAK GHARIBYAN

  • Was born in 1899 on January 27 in Aygezard village of Artashat region.
  • In 1915 graduated from Yerevan pro-gymnasium.
  • In 1919 graduated from Yerevan male gymnasium.
  • In 1927 graduated from Yerevan State University Faculty of Philology.
  • 1922-1928 worked as a teacher in seven-year and second grade schools named after Abovyan in Yerevan.
  • In 1928 was admitted to Yerevan State University postgraduate course.
  • 1929-1948 lectured at Yerevan State University.
  • 1934 -1977 He lectured at Yerevan Pedagogical Institute after Abovyan.
  • 1934-1937 lectured at the Armenian Department of the part-time Pedagogical Institute of Tbilisi.
  • 1935-1947 lectured at the Armenian Department of Baku Pedagogical Institute after Lenin.
  • 1934-1954 lectured at the Armenian part-time Pedagogical Institute.
  • 1934-1956 lectured at the Russian Pedagogical Institute of Yerevan.
  • 1934-1960 was head of of the Armenian language department at Yerevan Pedagogical Institute after Kh. Abovyan.
  • 1936-1948 lectured at the Leninakan Pedagogical Institute after Nalbandyan.
  • In 1937 he was the first in Armenia to receive the scientific degree of candidate of philological sciences.
  • In 1940 he was also the first in Armenia to receive the scientific degree of doctor of philological sciences.
  • In 1940 received the scientific title of professor.
  • 1944-1950 and 1956-1962. was director of the Institute of language of the Academy of sciences of Armenian SSR.
  • In 1947 was selected as a corresponding member of the Academy of Armenian SSR.
  • In 1954 received the title of an honored figure of science.
  • 1955-1967 led the Joint Scientific Council for Awarding Degrees of the Institutes of Language, Literature and Art of the Academy of Armenian SSR.
  • 1958-1961 and 1964-1977 was deputy of Academician-Secretary in a public order of the Social Sciences department of the Academy of Sciences of Armenian SSR.
  • In 1960 was elected a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR.
  • 1962-1977 was the chairman of the library board of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR and the director of Fundamental library.
  • In 1969 was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
  • Died in 1977 in Yerevan.
