Vache Nalbandyan

VACHE SMBAT NALBANDYAN

  • Was born in 1919 on February 25 in the city of Nor Bayazet (now Gavar).
  • 1936 graduated from Nor Bayazet secondary school.
  • 1941 graduated from Yerevan State University Faculty of Philology with an honors diploma.
  • 1941-1946 served in the Soviet army.
  • 1946-1949 was a post-graduate student of Yerevan State University majoring in “Ancient Armenian Literature”.
  • 1948-1998 lectured at Yerevan State University.
  • 1952-1953 the director of Matenadaran after Mesrop Mashtots.
  • 1954 was awarded the scientific degree of candidate of philological sciences.
  • 1955-1971 was elected as deputy of the Supreme Council of IV-VII convocations of the Armenian SSR.
  • 1956-1965 Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs of Yerevan State University.
  • 1957 received the scientific title of associate professor.
  • 1959-1967 Deputy Chairman of the Presidency of the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR.
  • 1965-1977 Director of the Institute of Literature after M. Abeghyan of the Academy of sciences of Armenian SSR.
  • 1969 was awarded the scientific degree of doctor of philological sciences, and received the scientific title of professor for his dissertation on “Armenia of the fourth century in ancient Armenian historiography and the historical novels of Stepan Zoryan”.
  • 1971 was elected corresponding-member of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR.
  • 1978-1998 Chairman of the Library Council under the Presidency of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia – Director of the Fundamental Science Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia.
  • 1982 was awarded with the “Merit” of the Academy of Sciensec of the Armenian SSR.
  • 1985 was awarded the Order of the Second Class of the Patriotic War and the Jubilee Medal on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the victory over fascist Germany.
  • 1990 was awarded the title of the honored figure of science of the Armenian SSR.
  • 1994 was elected as Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia.
  • 1998 died in Yerevan.
