CURRICULUM DESCRIPTION

Aims

Course description list aims at providing students, teaching faculty and administrative staff with information about the curriculum carried out in the faculty of Library and Information Sources. It also aims at making it available to public and includes brief information on educational curriculum, its component courses and educational modules. It includes

  • General description of the educational curriculum- awarded qualification, curriculum goal and learning outcomes, curriculum contents and the structure of credits, final requirements and attestation modes, information about internship etc.
  • Brief description of separate studies and educational modules, course name and identification number, academic semester, credits assigned to a course, brief contents of courses, teaching and assessment methods and criteria.

The basic aim of this course is to introduce the most famous historical-philosophical concepts and teachings of the essence of Philosophy.

The basic aim of this course is to introduce the most famous historical-philosophical concepts and teachings of the essence of Philosophy.

The aim of this course is to study the peculiarities inherent in archives management, to demonstrate the role of archival documents in scientific research and also in solving state management and economy practical needs, to underlie the importance of archival documents for scientific research, as well as for state government and economic policy, to get acquainted with arrangement and management of the archival work, as well as use of computers in the process of archives automation.

The aim of this course is to make students acquainted with the machine-readable formats for the description of the item, to understand the work of algorithm for exchange of data among machines, to learn the structure of descriptive groups used in machine-readable cataloguing, to understand the role and meaning of fields and subfields. To master the techniques of importing and exporting data in machine readable format, to comprehend the essence of authority records while designing bibliographical database. To learn the logics of indicators, fields and subfields used for structuring the database of authority records, to acquire techniques for exporting data in machine-readable format and analyzing outcomes.

Third semester, examination.

The aim of this course is to study the technical features of distributed and local network designing, to be able to understand the structure of internet address, domain and its structure, to have primary knowledge about the agreements used in network designing. During this course the distributed network designing and its operation features peculiarities are studied.
The course of studies aims at teaching the students the structure of network models and division principles of network levels. Upon completing this course students shall gain fundamental knowledge about types of network models. Besides theoretical knowledge, they will also acquire practical skills in design and management of library information networks.

The aim of this course is to develop master student’s proper knowledge about the most important provisions of copyright regulating relations arisen in regard with creating and using works of science, literature and art.
Mastering ‘Intellectual Property’ course master student shall have a notion about the nature and role of intellectual property as an individual branch of civil law. Upon completing this course students shall

  • have notion about basic terms and norms of copyright in force in Armenia,
  • master copyright terminology,
  • gain knowledge about the normative legislation and its structure used within copyright frameworks,
  • have clear-cut notion about the nature of personal and non-personal property rights of inventors to works of science, literature and art, procedure and methods of right transfer,
  • gain skills to differentiate objects and subjects of copyright in practice and to draw up copyright agreements.

The aim of this course is to make an introduction to simplest methods of website creation. This course doesn't require any primary technical knowledge or knowledge about programming. The course covers three parts: basics of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Gained knowledge and skills are used in the final laboratory work by designing a simple webpage.

In the first part (8 academic hours) the students get acquainted with Drupal 6 content management system, core blocks and modules included in its structure and ready design templates which can be activated on the webpage. They study the skills of inserting tables, numbered texts, colors, pictures, titles with HTML.
In the second part (8 academic hours) the students are taught basic knowledge and comprehension of web programming and programming languages (PHP web programming language in Drupal 6 content management system).

This course has practical nature and its aims to teach the essentials of e-learning, understanding how to create, manage and operate virtual learning environment, how to upload theoretical materials, practical assignments and question cards, how to log in and control students’ works, to get to know the features of student-centred teaching, as well as to teach current methodological approaches of e-learning. Students participating in e-learning course prepare pilot courses in the virtual learning environment of International Scientific-Educational Center of NAS RA.

fourth semester, examination.

During this course students are provided with necessary knowledge on how to create web sites for libraries based on the demands to design some of the parts on library webpage. Drupal 6 content management system serves as a basis for implementation of the above mentioned, HTML language is used for designing web site, and PHP web programming language is used for creating new modules and templates.
This course of studies aims at acquainting with the techniques of the library information web sites.

The aim of this course is to teach students the structure of OSI and TSP/IP network models and the principles of dividing network levels, principles of data transmission, the nature and means of network structure. Upon completion this course students will gain fundamental knowledge about the types of network models. Besides theoretical knowledge they will also get practical skills for information network designing and management.

The aim of this course is to acquainting with the automatization features of library procedures, to demonstrate the subsystems (that is - cataloguing, registration and service of the readers, stocking of library resources, calculation of periodical publications) used for the effective implementation of these actions. To explain the role and meaning of online catalogues for public use, introduce designing principles and approaches to electronic catalogues. The advantages and disadvantages of the open-code integrated and commercial library systems are demonstrated during the course of studies.

The aim of this course is to convey general idea about bibliography and to introduce the historical development of bibliography in Armenia. To demonstrate bibliographical databases and understand its modern approaches. To introduce document communication system as an environment of bibliographical information activity, as well as document- reader system as a source of origin of bibliographical information. To demonstrate the role of bibliography in the system of related sciences. The unity of bibliography and librarianship, bibliography, bibliography and scientific discipline of documentation are illustrated, to explain national bibliographical problems and functions.

To teach the students the principles of Linux system, which can be used in librarianship. Upon completio of this course the students will gain fundamental knowledge about such important parts as the kernel, processes, file systems, shell interpreters and so on. Besides, theoretical knowledge they will get practical skills, and can operate not only within the Linux system graphical environment, but also will understand the system structure.
